What means fluid's spurt loss volume? How does it influence the drilling bit?
2016-05-22
What is the spurt loss? The spurt loss is the initial loss of fluids from a mud or frac fluid, before the walk cake can be formed.
So, how about the spurt loss volume? The spurt loss volume AKA the instantaneous volume (spurt) of liquid is the volume that passes through a filter medium prior to deposition of a competent and controlling filter cake.
In static filtration, the spurt volume can be a disproportionately large percentage of the total 30-minute filtrate in an API-type test. This indicates that filter cake is slow in being deposited compared to a similar mud with lower spurt loss. To avoid uncertainties of spurt-loss volume, relative filtrate volume is used in static tests.
Besides, we should know that the spurt loss volume can also influence the drilling speed of the bit. The higher spurt loss volume is beneficial to the drilling rate, but in the reservoir, due to the bigger rock pore of the sandstone, limestone, dolostone, and the other stone, the spurt loss volume should be a lower value to ensure the penetration rate of the reservoir.
That’s why there are always kinds of the products in Kolanky’s warehouse to meet the different requirement. Anyway, if you want to buy our product or you can’t make sure which drilling fluid you should purchase, welcome to contact
